The solar eclipse chart of 3rd November has great synchronicity with Tony Abbott’s (TA) solar return (SR) chart relocated to Sydney, as his birthday falls on the next day, almost 15hrs after the eclipse. His SR chart, not relocated to Sydney falls on the same day as the eclipse, albeit 5 hrs later. However I have used the SR relocated to Sydney for this discussion.
The notable standout of his solar return is of course the eclipse Sun falling exactly on his Sun and squaring his Natal Uranus. TA’s Sun Uranus square is the most exact applying aspect in his natal chart.
Another standout of his Solar Return is the return of Venus to its natal position. Any planet returning to its natal position, besides the Sun of course, is considered very important in a solar return chart.
Natally, his Venus (conjunct Australia’s Chiron,) is square his moon, sextile Mars and Neptune and trine his Pluto. It is also sesquiquadrate( frustration of action delayed achievement) his natal Uranus.
The eclipse of 3rd of November, will trigger his natal Sun and the Venus/Uranus aspect in his natal chart as well as his natal grand fixed cross see below.
However, also of note are the many other natal planetary positions which tie into the solar return/eclipse chart.
His natal Jupiter is square SR Jupiter, his natal Saturn is square SR Mars, and opposite his SR PoF, his natal Pluto is opposite SR Neptune, his natal Ascendant is opposing SR Uranus, and squaring SR Pluto.
With so much of his natal chart hitting his solar return chart and the eclipse chart by difficult and challenging aspects, it’s going to be one hell of a ride for Tony this birthday year.
Let’s start with the Venus Return. Considering the positive aspects of his natal Venus (Trine Pluto from 3rd house to 11th house and sextile Mars in first house) he will be very determined to bring his expressed political ideas into fruition. Given his position as Prime Minister, he now has the opportunity of a life time to do so.
SR Venus (3rd house of communications) squaring the natal Moon in 6th house of work, shows that his ideas will not sit well with the public service/ or women.
Whilst implementing his ideas, his natal Uranus is also triggered due to the Venus/Uranus sesquiquadrate (frustration of action delayed achievement) aspect in his chart.
The Uranus challenge
Uranus in Leo is a generational planetary configuration, and is described as commanding will, expressive change or being self-centred and dramatic. The positive of this combination can be attuned to heart energy vibrations and high creative vision, however, mostly there will always be an element of self and arrogance combined with this. His political ideas, Uranus in 11th will always have frustration but delayed achievement when combined with expression of his ideas with Venus in 3rd. His creative use of slogans capturing the heart of his policies over a long period of time – 6 years, giving him eventual victory at the polls personifies this aspect. His natal Saturn in his 3rd house, trine his Natal Uranus may also have assisted him.
With transiting Uranus trining his natal Uranus in Leo, he has also managed to capture the heart of matters which are at odds with the standard way of doing things in Government. Now depending on your political persuasions, this statement might seem a bit controversial. However, given the transiting Uranus in Aries, Pluto in Capricorn square at the moment, he is capturing the heart of those who are opposed to the power of BIG government (Pluto). In Mundane Astrology Uranus represents the political right, so we have this push for the right to assert itself in Government and challenging the concept of centralised government (Pluto).
The Eclipse of the Sun
His natal Sun (Scorpio) forms a tight fixed grand cross with Uranus (Leo), Chiron (Aquarius) and the nodes(Sc/Taurus). This whole fixed grand cross will feel the impact of the solar return and the eclipse, occurring at 11 deg of Scorpio and the fixed signs . The 2nd, 5th, 11th, 8th houses will receive activation.
The first thing that comes to mind with this configuration is the fight in the House of Representative, 11th and the Senate 5th, over the repeal of the Carbon Tax legislation, and of course other legislation relating to the Direct Action Plan on Climate change. Mr Abbott will be fighting for his beliefs (2nd house) to repeal the Tax (8th) with all his might. With this fixed cross activation he has the fight of his life on his hands.
The eclipse on the 3rd, according to B. Brady, “is a gentle family of eclipses which brings a sense of inspiration or the illumination of ideas …there is a sudden release of material from the unconscious which brings with it a great deal of insight.”[i] So will our PM have an epiphany of some sort?
Astrologers say that an eclipse to your north node, and TA’s north node is involved in this eclipse, brings changes for the better. Of course depending on one’s political bent, this can be good news or bad news.
However, as astrologers we know that when a grand fixed cross is activated, the process of change or challenge can’t go smoothly.
As his Uranus is again activated during this eclipse, the Venus/Uranus challenge of his natal chart mentioned above, is also activated. Hence his frustration but delayed achievement aspect will again receive attention.
Will he call a double dissolution thereby dissolving the whole Senate and go for a complete victory in the Senate and House of Reps election to attain his aspirations? After all, such an event could grant him a “delayed achievement.”
Activation of other planets
Mr Abbott has a bevy of other planets receiving challenging aspects in his solar arc chart. His natal Saturn in Sagittarius and 3rd house is squaring SR Mars in the 12th. He will be using lots of energy to suppress his enemies. Will he shoot himself in the foot by adhering to his ideas?
The SR Part of Fortune (9th house – the Press) is also opposing his natal Saturn in the 3rd house (communications), so the restrictions in his communication style will not gain him accolades with the Press!
Natal Pluto (11th – House of Representatives/Political ideals) is also opposing SR Neptune (5th – Senate/Creativity), perhaps he is delusional (Neptune) in thinking that he will gain support from the current Senate at the moment? Do these aspects suggest that perhaps he should wait and not press to get his Repeal Acts through Parliament at this time? Or perhaps its just not the time to get too creative with his political ideals!
SR Jupiter (10th) squaring natal Jupiter (1st) can only give him uber-optimism in gaining success in his actions. Note Jupiter is the ruler of his Venus in Sagittarius and Saturn in Sagittarius as well, so we could see more “foot in mouth” when communicating.
However, the SR Pluto/Uranus square is aspecting his natal ascendant (self assertion). SR Uranus is conjunct his descendant (marriage) and opposes his Ascendant, and SR Pluto in his 4th house (home) squares his SR Uranus in 7th (relationships) and his natal ascendant.
One can only assume with these aspects, his home life and relationships will be challenged through his relocation to Canberra.
Perhaps his wife is not at all keen to come. Given that his wife runs her own business in Sydney, this is not surprising. Now as First Lady she will have greater responsibilities than before when TA was opposition leader, and will have to devote lots of time and energy to dual roles.
The press has also reported that 2 of his daughters will stay behind in Sydney and not come to reside at the Lodge in Canberra. With his natal MC in Cancer, and also very close to the square of Uranus and Pluto, this break-up of the family unit will not sit well with Tony.
This aspect, could also be responsible for the challenges he will face with Equality in Marriage issues, and it may also allude to a passing of an elderly parent.
Will he achieve ?
The eclipse chart of 3rd Nov drawn up for Canberra has the Uranus/Pluto square, however, it is also filled with a heap of sextiles and trines (positive aspects). With the degree of the ascendant in Canberra, there is almost a grand sextile in the chart. TA’s natal Sun and north node are brought into this favourable aspect, but the eclipse Venus is not. The eclipse Venus and TA’s SR Venus does however form a trine to the MC (Achievement) of the eclipse chart.
Mr Abbott will get some victory from the challenges he faces over the next year. Frustration with delayed achievement should again come to the fore.
He may come out of it though, wondering if it was all worth it.
